MCC Returns to Vets Auditorium, Reloaded and Ready for 2010
With the MCC (Interim) Lightweight Champion, Joe “The Southside Strangler” Brammer summoned to the bright lights of the UFC, the division has been opened up for two top contenders to strap on the gloves and battle it out for the coveted strap. One of the contestants, however, has been fortunate enough to wear the championship hardware around his waste already- in the Featherweight Division. Former MCC champ, TJ “The Spider” O’Brien has made the decision to move into the already stacked lightweight pool to take on Jake “Dirty Bird” Brown at MCC 24 “Reloaded.” With a wealth of experience behind him, as well as an arsenal of submissions, O’Brien will need it, as he faces an opponent who’s coming with a truckload of heart and a sledgehammer for a right hand.
Jake Brown has faced some stiff competition early in his career, dropping bouts to UFC veteran, John “Hurricane” Halverson and former TUF contestant Paul “Gingabread Man” Bird. However, “Dirty Bird” has rebounded with four straight wins- all stoppages by submission of knock out. Brown’s most recent victory included a TKO over O’Brien’s friend and training partner, Alex Harper, at MCC 22 “Reality Check.”
In the evenings co-main event, former lightweight contender and UFC’s TUF season nine contestant, Paul “Gingabread Man” Bird makes his way back to MCC to face former MCC champion and WEC veteran, Chris “Mad Dog” Mickle.
With only one lone blemish on his record, Bird’s biggest win of his career came a few months ago when he submitted WEC and Pride veteran, Joe Pearson, in the very first round. With a desire to get another chance at the big show, Bird takes on another tough challenge when he goes toe to toe with Mickle at MCC 24.
Mickle has stayed very active in 2009. The bout with Bird will mark his eighth fight in a one year span. Most recently, Mickle submitted fellow lightweight Will Shutt with a lightning fast armbar at nine seconds into the opening round. One to never shy away from a challenge, “Mad Dog” plans to open 2010 with a bang by defeating “The Gingabread Man.”
Also on the card, Rick “The Law Man” Tasler, Andy Branson Vs Devon Green for #1 contender in the Welterweight Division, Josh Henry Vs Daraughn Canada, Joe Morris, Female bout; Cassie Roddish Vs Katy Klinefelter, and much more! MCC 24 “Reloaded”, Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Saturday, January 16. For ticket information and to read all news about MCC, log on to www.MidwestCageChampionship.com.
